Between the 17th and 19th of June 2024, six young pupils and three members of staff from Wings School Cumbria will be embarking on a Charity Coast to Coast cycle ride for Médecins Sans Frontières.
The challenging ride will take the group from the West Coast to the East Coast, starting in Morecambe, Lancashire and finishing in Bridlington, Yorkshire. This route covers the breadth of England, covering 172 miles. The Group aim to cover fifty miles on Day 1, from Morecambe to the overnight stop in Cracoe. A further 62 miles on Day 2 reaching York, and then finally 60 miles to the finish in Bridlington.
Training is well underway with the intrepid group of cyclists putting in the miles and practicing cycling as a group. Group Leader Mr Singleton said, “It’s going to be a hugely challenging undertaking for all involved and a rewarding experience with students to develop personal skills as well as showing resilience and determination.”
As a further element to the ride and to ensure others can benefit from the achievement the pupils will be seeking sponsorship for which all proceeds will be donated to Médecins Sans Frontières, a charity nominated by Wings Cumbria Staff member Miss Atherton. Médecins Sans Frontières brings medical humanitarian assistance to victims of conflict, natural disasters, epidemics, or healthcare exclusion.
